This fully functional cardboard instrument was made during the pandemic (2020-2021). Construction of the heart of the organ: the valve box and windchest. Each key controls its own valve, which controls admittance of wind to its respective pipes. The organ is made entirely from paper and cardboard, except the plastic keys on the keyboard. The organ has 32 reed pipes, made from real estate advertisement cardstock material. The wind system was made from a balloon and one-way valve. An airbed inflator is used for wind supply, and the tracker and sticker mechanism itself was made with wooden skewers. Initially, I ran into issues with leakage through the porous material of the corrugated cardboard. I fixed this by adding a layer of packing tape around the entire box to make an airtight seal. The valves themselves were padded with tissue paper and foam to shut off wind to the pipes until a key is pressed.
Upon bringing this organ to show at school, I added a decorative wrapping to the instrument. With that wood wrap, the organ looks much more presentable!
